Newsletter 1/22 - 2/1

Welcome back after a nice, long weekend.  Here is an update of things to come over the next 2 weeks:

Keyboarding-  We have scheduled the computer lab on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.  There will be a keyboarding assignment sent home on these nights in addition to the regular homework.  Each keyboarding homework will be worth 20 points.

Daily 5- No changes from the last 2 weeks.  But I do encourage you to support your child in the South Elementary writing contest.  It is not mandatory, but we have such great writers that would represent our 3rd grade very well!  If you need the rules sent home or emailed, please let me know.

Vocabulary- As you probably noticed, I forgot to send the vocabulary cards home until the end of last week.  The students will be tested on the 4 new words this Friday.  Sorry about the mix-up!

Math- We're finishing up our chapter on Patterns and Relationships.  Next chapter will be on Solids and  Shapes.

Times Tables-  All times tables are now being passed off.  Our regular pass-off day is Wednesday.  If your child is ready on another day, please send a little note to let me know they are ready.  I'm pleased with the work the students are doing at home!

*Book Orders-  I have sent home a couple of book orders today.  They will be due on Tues., Jan. 29th. I have included my teacher code and encourage you to order online if possible.

Have a wonderful week!

Newsletter 1/7 - 1/11

Happy New Year!  I hope your holidays were wonderful! I loved spending time with my family, but am so glad to be back with my 3rd graders!  This is what you can expect over the next 2 weeks:

Parent Volunteers-  We will start back up on Jan. 15th and will be on our regular schedule.

Math-  New math chapter on patterns and relationships.  Mountain Math once a week.

Times Tables- Wednesdays will be our designated pass-off days.  We are trying to finish up 4's, 6's, 7's & 8's.  Flashcards will be coming home for the last couple of pass-offs.

Daily 5 Literacy-  Since we have concentrated heavily on writing, we will spend more time on Read-to-Self, Read-to-Someone, Listening and Word Work.  During this time, we will be working on small guided reading groups and independent reading with a teacher.

Vocabulary- Four new words will be coming each week.  Test on Fridays.

Spelling- During the week we will be participating in word work activities that use our current spelling words.  Test on Fridays.

Cursive- We have finished all of the lowercase letters and will begin the uppercase this week.

Keyboarding-  Will take the place of our unit study for the next month. We have a whole new system for our computer lab and it will take a week or so to work out the glitches.   After the keyboarding unit, we will be studying the moon.

*Just a reminder- Please take note of the first annual writing contest at South Elementary.  The details were sent home before Christmas.  If you need additional instructions, let me know.
-Also remember to keep working on Battle of the Books and Spelling Bee, if your child is interested.

Thank you for everything!  I appreciated every note, gift and word of kindness you and your students gave me at Christmastime.
